About us

From Globetrotters to Passionate Hosts 🌏✈️

Yes, that describes us pretty well! But let's go back to the beginning...

We'd like to take a moment to introduce ourselves to you, so you know who stands behind Alpstay Apartments.

We are Daniela & Tom, and we met in 2017 at the GTI Festival at Lake Faak in Carinthia (and NO, we weren't there because of the tuned VWs, but because of work 😉). I (Dani) was about to finish my studies, and Tom ended up in Austria that weekend purely by chance. You see, he's Australian and, before we met, could only say "Grüazi" & "ein Bier bitte" in German!

In the years that followed, our intuition guided us to the next chapter, including:

  • Working together for 5 seasons in the hotel industry (CH & AT)
  • Traveling and exploring 20 countries together
  • Converting a transporter into a camper van ourselves and traveling the Balkans for several weeks
  • Volunteering for 3 months in Tanzania at a children's & animal shelter
  • Traveling for 2 months through Australia & New Zealand, among other places with the camper
  • 2022: Moving from Lower Austria to Carinthia (longing for mountains & lakes)
  • 2023: Starting the rental of our first 3 holiday apartments in Bad Kleinkirchheim

Even before our move to beautiful Carinthia, we always dreamed of building something together professionally in the future. With the rental of the holiday apartments to guests, we have now fulfilled a small dream of ours, in which we both thrive 100% and can each contribute our strengths. We couldn't imagine anything better and we're definitely excited about everything that is yet to come!

Dani, tell us a bit about yourself...

I was born in Vienna, but grew up a bit further south in the district of Baden (Lower Austria). From a young age, I've been fascinated by other countries, languages, and cultures, which is why I chose to attend a 5-year tourism school and then pursue an international business degree with a focus on "Marketing & Sales" during my studies.

During this time, I had the opportunity to gain numerous experiences through internships and part-time jobs in the hotel industry both domestically and abroad. I also used every free moment to travel to foreign countries, such as Indonesia, America, Thailand, Singapore, Morocco and a lot more.

After several marketing jobs in both Vienna and Carinthia, I simply realized that I belong in tourism and hospitality. Therefore, I'm very excited to have fulfilled a small dream of renting out our first holiday apartments to guests, and I'm looking forward to where our journey will take us next!

Fun Fact: I learned Russian for 8 years and lived in Russia for almost half a year!

Tom, tell us a bit about yourself...

I was originally born in Perth, Australia, and grew up in Hobart, Tasmania. (Yes, that's where the famous Tasmanian Devil lives!)

At the age of 22, I grabbed my backpack with the intention of going to Canada for 3 months. Well... those 3 months turned into a full 2 years of work & travel throughout the Canadian Rocky Mountains before I headed to Europe. Thanks to a friend, I landed a job in Switzerland and spent a winter in the Alps.

The following summer, I met Dani and moved to Austria with her a few months later. After m any seasonal jobs and travels, we have now found our new home in Carinthia, surrounded by countless mountains & lakes. Renting out our first holiday apartments is a little dream come true, and that's currently where 100% of my focus lies. I'm already looking forward to what's to come!

Fun Fact: I trained as a snowboard instructor in Austria and didn't speak a word of German before 2018, but now I speak it almost perfectly! ;)

The following house rules are intended to provide guidance for ensuring a harmonious stay. Additionally, we have listed some rules for our relief, which we hope you understand. By treating the apartments with care, you also help us to continue providing great accommodations in the future.

General
All items in the holiday apartment or on the balcony, terrace, or in the garden may be used by guests. Please handle all furnishings and inventory with care and treat them as you would your own home. Ensure that all fellow travellers adhere to the house rules.

Check-In & Check-Out
The holiday apartment can be occupied from 4:00 PM on the day of arrival. Check-out is by 10:00 AM so that the apartment can be cleaned and prepared in time for the next guests.

Please handle the kitchen equipment and appliances with care. Note that dishes, pots, and cutlery should only be returned to the cabinets in a clean and dry condition. The same applies to cutlery and appliances. Please do not place hot pots and other hot objects on the tables or countertops without coasters. Always use a cutting board as a base for cutting. Please leave the oven and microwave clean.

Damages
We understand that no one intentionally damages things, but accidents can happen. We would appreciate it if you would inform us of any damage incurred, rather than us discovering it only during the final cleaning after your departure. The tenant is liable for damages up to the replacement costs.

Gatherings
Parties and any events are prohibited in this holiday apartment. There are plenty of options for going out in the town center. See (digital) info folder! (QR code)

Heating
Due to the current situation, we also ask for conscientious and energy-saving heating behavior in your comfort apartment.

Smoking
Smoking is strictly prohibited in our holiday apartment. Please use the outdoor area of our holiday apartment for smoking only and dispose of waste in the designated ashtray or in the residual waste. Damages such as burn marks and holes in or on furniture, floors, bedding, etc., will result in us invoicing you for replacement value.

Pets
The accommodation of pets of any kind in our apartment is not allowed, as we also want to accommodate allergy sufferers. In the event of a violation, we reserve the right to charge a cleaning fee of €200.

Please be considerate of other tenants and keep noise levels in the holiday apartment, especially with regard to music or TV, at a reasonable volume. Please also observe the general quiet hours between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

Visitors
Your visitors are welcome in our holiday apartment for short periods at any time. However, it is not allowed to let unregistered guests stay overnight in the holiday apartment.

Our holiday apartments have internet access via wifi. We permit you to use the wifi access free of charge for the duration of your stay. It is prohibited to allow third parties to use the wifi and to disclose access data (username & password). Virus protection and firewall are not available. Data traffic generated using the wifi is unencrypted. Therefore, the data may be viewed by third parties. We expressly point out that there is a risk of malware (e.g., viruses, trojans, worms, etc.) when using the wifi, which can affect the end device. The use of wifi is at the guest's own risk. We do not assume any liability for damage to the tenant's digital media caused by the use of the internet access. Environment We care about the environment, and you probably do too. Therefore, please turn off the lights and all technical devices when not in use. Saving water also helps nature.

House Rights
As landlords, we have the right to access the holiday apartments at any time, especially in case of imminent danger. When exercising the right of access, consideration will be given appropriately. We will inform the guest about this in advance unless this is unreasonable or impossible under the circumstances of the individual case.

Duty of Care
We ask you to handle the rental property with care and to ensure that fellow travelers and relatives also adhere to the house rules. The entrance door should generally be closed and locked through your keypad when leaving the house. Likewise, all windows and doors should be closed when leaving the apartment to avoid possible damage from storms or break-ins. We as landlords are not liable for tenants' valuables.

We wish you a pleasant stay, lots of fun, relaxation, and rest.

If you have any questions, we are always available to assist you. By booking the holiday apartment, we assume that the house rules are accepted.
